Council Member Chad West Accused of Violating Campaign Finance Laws

District 1 Council Member Chad West is under fire this week as Dallas residents have been raising concerns over the council member’s allegedly flagrant misuse of campaign funds. Texas election law is clear on its demands for voter transparency and strict dedicated use of campaign funds for campaign-related expenses. However, recent claims suggest West may be hoodwinking voters by intentionally misrepresenting choice expenses.

According to local YouTuber Dallas En Fuego, last January, West paid himself for “contract labor,” but no details about the work have been provided. In February, West expensed a trip to Florida, categorizing it as “travel out of district” where he used campaign money to visit questionable venues; some among them, permitted patrons in jockstraps to receive drink discounts.
March records reveal a “supplies” payment to a male bathhouse in Washington, D.C. While campaign-related travel is normal, these types of per diem raise significant questions of how they were related to any legitimate campaign objectives.
Dallas — this is an trending issue of accountability and transparency. Gross mismanagement of campaign funds undermines public trust and shakes confidence in a leader’s ability to handle bigger responsibilities—like overseeing Dallas’s $5 billion budget. Council Member West owes his constituents a clear explanation of these expenditures. We deserve better.
As upcoming City Council elections loom, it’s critical that we demand our leaders act with integrity, ensuring funds are managed responsibly for the benefit of the community.
